Another Interesting Gambit against the Dutch

image

Last Monday I had quite an interesting encounter against Richard McMichael in a Middlesex league match. I had the White pieces and found myself facing the Dutch!!

On this occasion I thought that I would venture the ‘Povah’ Gambit. Which you can get after 3 e4!? hence the diagram on the left.

Below is a quick video on the game if you are interested.

I call this the Povah Gambit as I have seen Nigel use it on a number of occasions against the Dutch. Anyway onto the game, as always any comments are more than welcome.

cheers Simon, I found this fun to play through. Not sure what i was thinking about when I played Qf6 instead of e5 which would have been fun [I may have been prematurely celebrating not getting mated in under 20 moves]

All the best, Rick

Great entertainment Simon and good sporting response from your opponent. I have been applying lessons learnt from your books and videos into my play. By moving away from safety first and, I believe, injecting more vitality into my play has had beneficial effects on my results in club and tournament games. Thanks

Hi Rick, yeah it was looking bad for you from a pretty early stage. Nasty opening to go down! Anyway thanks for the response!
