The Classical Dutch DVD – Promo

A promotional film leading up to the release of chess grandmaster Simon Williams’ new DVD ‘The Classical Dutch’ due to be released at the Hastings Chess Tournament in December 2009.

Footage includes chess at Trafalgar Square, chess-boxing and games with UK chess team ‘The Drunken Knights’. A Chilli Pepper Films production.

NEW! There will be a DVD launch event at The Pig in Paradise, Hastings on Monday 4th January. This will be a Dutch theme blitz tournament with cash and other special prizes. More details to follow. Contact simon@gingergm.com.

Hey Simon, the production is just great! So you are not only a 2550 GM, but also a potential film-maker now!

Hi Hans, thought it was worth making a DVD as I am not that impressed with the standard of chess DVD’s out there.
The production has been done by Chilli Pepper Films so you will have to thank them for that!
I am just hoping that it is a success and a lot of people buy the final product. If so there will be plenty more DVD’s in the pipeline!

great video and I’m looking forward to your finished DVD! You have a very personable and fun presentation approach compared to many GMs :) And I’d love to see your analysis of your game with Joe as I need to learn how to play against the Classical Dutch with white!

Hi Maria. Thanks for the nice comments. I was lucky to have the help of Chilli Pepper Films for the DVD. Hopefully the finished version will be better than anything out there. (not that hard, one DVD I saw included the presenter having a 4 min coughing fit!)
We are trying to get 100 DVD’s done for a launch at the Hastings Chess Tourment this year! The idea is to have a Dutch themed tournament in the Pig in Paradise pub with price money and free drinks!! Oh yes please!

Hi Simon, When and where will the video be available. Looks really good. I play the stonewall but maybe i switch to the classical as it looks fun. The video appears to have a refreshing format. Sorry but the chessbase ones are boring and much too detailed. One to one hours is more than sufficient. Good luck at Hastings and i shall be following your games online. Seems as though you use KID for high level games !!

Hi Kevin. Hopefully we will be bringing a run of 100 DVD’s down to Hastings, might have a launch down the pig in paradise pub.
The Classical Dutch is fun to play, a bit tricky at times but a lot of fun!
The main idea of the DVD is to explain the ideas behind the opening, not the actual moves but the plans behind them, so hopefully the DVD will be able to teach anyone the opening. Of course there will be some new ideas as well.
As soon as the DVD is done it will put up here and you will be able to buy it through gingergm with a special offer!! Ok cheers hope that answers some question!

Hi Simon!
Yesterday the third copy, as you said in your note, where laying in my
mailbox.
I must say it looks great!
Even my 11-year old son liked it and understood most of the comments.
We even have a nice laugh when you crushed the swedish GM Agrest ;-)
Compare to you I´m a poor player but with my 15 years of playing classical
dutch, I have won against much stronger players!
For me the opening is much more useful when I play it against stronger
player. Do you know if this is a common reflection?
A really nice product and I´m looking forward to see more dvd´s from you.
