First of all I have to apologise for my lack of updates. I have been playing far too much chess recently and I need a break! At some point in the future I will do an update of everything that I have played in. Suffice to say things were going well, but of late I have been making some stupid blunders.

At the moment I am playing the Dieppe open. Dieppe is a lovely little town in Brittany, France. The schedule has been a little bit hectic with 2 games a day on occasions. No surprise to say that I have scored 0.5/2 for the 9 o’clock games, against an average of 2180. In both games I managed to blunder a piece! Not good!

I’ve just returned from the extremely strong Greek Open Championship in Kavala, where in between lying on the beach, eating olives and drinking beer I played some chess: 5.5/9 for a pretty mediocre performance in terms of rating points.

I made 0.5/4 with Black, spoiling some perfectly acceptable positions with ridiculous moves. But with White I scored 5/5 and played some nice games, in all of which BISHOPS were instrumental!

Ginger GM is proud to present the first of an (ir)regular series of question and answer columns by ginger International Master Adam Hunt.

Adam, who is full-time chess teacher at Woodbridge School in Suffolk, is currently playing a series of open tournaments in Greece. I (the webmaster) thought it was only fair to fly out to Kavala myself to force him to answer his first set of questions, which he’s been sitting on for far too long!
