Jutes of Kent in Division 1: Part 2

The following is a report of the Dutes promotion to division 1 by the team captain Chris Rice. I must thank him him letting me use the report and Alexis for letting me use his photo’s. The report had to be edited somewhat so that I did not get myself into too many legal difficulties…

A Knight Dance

I had an interesting game for Sandhurst against our league rivals, Crowthorne, the other day. I was faced against Ian Thompson, 190 ECF. The opening was one of my personal favourites and I was allowed to play a very pleasant knight dance.

A Good Start to the Day!! ICC…

I woke up this morning with a rather dizzy head so what was the first thing that I did? Well turn on ICC of course! Sad but true! I try to stop myself from playing too much nowadays as I find it far too addictive and I don’t seem to achieve anything else in the day but I decided on trying out a couple of games.

Chess is Beautiful Part 2 – Memory Loss a Good Thing?

Can memory loss ever be a good thing in chess? Well look at the following game and decide for yourself! Please discuss!

Last night I had a fascinating game for Sandhurst against Guildford. I was paired against Blair Connell an old friend who lives in Guildford. We used to meet in a local pub and have played a number of Blitz games over the years.

Final 4NCL. Jutes of Kent scrape into Division 1!!

4ncl2

The 4NCL is one of the most enjoyable chess events in the English calendar and the time had come to meet up for the last weekend of this session. For the last couple of sessions I had played for The Jutes of Kent who had gradually moved up from division 4 to division 2, this weekend was the real test, could we get into the dizzy heights of division 1?

We had a rather dodgy start when we found out that we were booked into the wrong hotel. Andy Mac, who hardly ever sets a foot wrong, had got us booked into the hotel that was for the division 3 matches. This slight error was jumped on by John ‘which hotel am I in?’ Naylor. Who must have managed to have blagged at least two pints out of Andy by making him feel so guilty.

4NCL Part 1 (Chess is Beautiful)

Ginger GM Williams has kindly allowed the webmaster to publish two nice finishes from the 4NCL this weekend. Simon did originally ask me to write a poker column detailing my quest for Supernova Elite, but every poker blog I’ve ever read (with a notable exception) is mind-numbingly boring and chess is a much better game than poker anyway. So for now, you’re getting chess.

I expect Simon will be reporting on the 4NCL in due course, where his team Jutes of Kent won promotion to Division 1. Further exciting content we have lined up for the site includes a regular question and answer column with ‘Ginger IM’ Adam Hunt!

On to the chess.
